| Grandfather clause | A company being allowed to continue with an action that is currently prohibited due to the fact that the law was put into action after the company had started to act. *Essentially the company is allowed to continue in a direction that is contrary to the law because when they started in that direction there was no law about the action. |

| Gross Profit | is a figure that is arrived at by subtracting the cost of goods sold from net sales. |

| Growth Stocks | securities in a Firm that is going to rapidly grow sales and earning and market share. (Usually they don’t pay dividends), and usually they trade at high price to earnings multiples. Investors who believe in the company are willing to pay a premium for the stock because they believe that the earnings will outpace the premium they are paying currently. An example of a growth stock where people are paying said premium is Google. |

| GST- Government Sales Tax | is a tax upon most goods and services in Canada and is a percentage of the pretax amount of the good or service. |

| Guaranteed Term | is an annuity insuring that the person who purchases an annuity (the annuitant) continues to get income that will last the rest of their lives, on top of which is guaranteed for a certain amount of years even if the annuitant dies prematurely. Essentially this safegaurds the savings of the person to a certain degree because if they agree to a minimum term of 15 years and die the day following the purchase of the annuity their family will still recieve payment for the next 15 years. |

| Hidden load | A fee that the buyer pays, generally, without knowing that the fee existed in the first place. |

| Horizontal merger | The merging of two or more companies that sell similar products. |

| Income Splitting | the practice of shifting income from a person with in a high tax bracket to another in a lower tax bracket, this is done to reduce the tax rate of the higher income person and is frequently practised by spouses. |

| Income Stocks | Stocks that have a consistent, stable, above-average dividend yield. And thus provide income for the owner of the stock |

| Inflation-indexed securities | Investment vehicles like bonds or gics that promise to yield a higher rate than inflation providing that you hold the investment until it matures. |
