Are there any TSX databases that give free historical data

I’ve been messing around with programming my own custom stock and portfolio analysis programs, mainly for leisure, but perhaps I’ll turn it into something I’d use long term if I can automate the data entry as much as possible. So I’m wondering if anyone knows of any places online that has free historical data to the TSX either in Excel or JSON format. QUANDL has lots of free NYSE data, but cant find anything free for Canadian stocks.

Also, I am looking for a recommendation on a good book or textbook on stock/portfolio anaylsis–the kind that you likely wouldn’t find on the shelf at your local Chapter’s Bookstore.

Thanks!

Hey there.

To be honest, it's hard enough to find accurate PAID Canadian data. So, I'd imagine it's going to be very hard to find it for free. I'd imagine you could build an excel file that accesses an API that could get you some historical data though. Maybe check Yahoo Finance or something? Overall though, we searched for this stuff for a very long time and ended up with Ycharts, which is certainly not free.

I know it's kind of the normal answer you'd see everywhere, but have you dug into the valuation sections of the Intelligent Investor or Security Analysis? I haven't read too many books on valuation outside of these two, so I probably am not the best person to comment.
