Hi Mat and Dan, Any thoughts on the potential buyout of COGECO by Altice and Rogers?

None off the top of my head outside of the fact the timing of the announcement is weird. The majority shareholder (which owns 69% and 82% of voting shares at CGO and CCA) has already come out and said they aren't selling. So it is very strange that they (Altice and rogers) would announce an offer that didn't have support from the major shareholder. It'll likely take a higher bid to make the deal happen, then there is a real risk of overpaying for the assets.

Overall, it is good that others see value in these assets which is likely why all telecoms are receiving a boost today. However, still very early to make sense of how this will all play out.

As for CGO and CGA shares they are are already up 20% today and are still trading at decent discounts to the offers ( $106.53 per CGA share and $134.22 per CCA share). Could be an arbitrage opportunity, but not one that I would be actively looking into at the moment. As mentioned, still too early .
