HI there,
There aren't many AI based ETFs in Canada. In fact, there is only one that has a specific focus on AI and that is Horizons Robotics and Automation Index ETF (RBOT). It tracks the Indxx Global Robotics & Artificial Intelligence Thematic Index and NVDIA accounts for 20% of holdings.
There are others in the US namely the following:
Global X Robotics & Artificial Intelligence ETF (BOTZ)
iShares Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Multisector ETF (IRBO)
First Trust Nasdaq Artificial Intelligence ETF (ROBT)
Their makeups are different and have varying degrees of exposure to AI. If I was in your position, I'd take a look at the top 10 holdings of all of these, then decide which you feel has the best exposure for what you are looking for. AI is a vast area that covers pretty much every sectors. Case in point, NVDIA is chips for AIs and Intuitive Surgical which is the second largest holding in the Horizon's RBOT fund, specializes in AI for healthcare equipment - think unmanned, robotic surgeries and the like. Both are AI but both are very, very different. One might only be interested in exposure to generative AI technology like ChatGPT and Gemini, in that case, you'd be looking for ETFs that have higher exposure to Microsoft and Google. Bottom line is this, it is a new area and there isn't a perfect ETF at the moment - not sure there will ever be given AI could touch pretty much every aspect of life.
