Hello stocktrades, I am 66 and have been using your boomer moderate portfolios.

Both that and the conservative are not doing well at all. Why do you think that is and what should I do about it.

I’m not a panic type of guy if you think those picks are still viable after covid. For example, why do you have Bank of Nova Scotia in there?

Hey there! There's a pretty strong reason for their underperformance. The Boomer Moderate portfolio relies heavily on the Canadian energy (SU,TRP) and financial (TD,BNS,MFC) sectors.

The Boomer Moderate does also have a tech play (OTEX), but it's the more conservative tech play in the portfolio, so it didn't reap the rewards like other high flying growth companies did.

Suncor was very unfortunate, and in fact unforeseen. When we made these portfolios, the company was the largest blue-chip stock in the oil and gas sector. This pandemic was something nobody saw coming. As of right now, it remains such a small allocation to the portfolio, we're keeping it around because we feel it will recover a bit.

The major thing holding this portfolio back is financials. In fact, most all other stocks are in the green by a solid margin.

The ultra-low interest rate environment is not good for them, that's for sure. But out of the financials in this portfolio, the dividends remain strong and they're all undervalued. In my opinion, they're going to rebound.

As to the question of whether I think these picks are viable after covid? Absolutely. I can't think of one stock in this portfolio that I wouldn't hold post-pandemic, except maybe Suncor. And again, it is only a 3.39% position in a portfolio that was designed to have only 45% Canadian equities.

Hope this helped, if not feel free to comment with more questions.
