Is HOT.UN a good investment going into 2021 with the vaccine rolling out?

Hi there,

I think we are a long ways away from a return to normal in the travel industry. Not only that, but AirBnB has gained in popularity during this pandemic as well so traditional hotel operators still have plenty of headwinds. That being said, it is certainly a rebound candidate. I would not however, expect it to reach 2019 levels soon. Air Canada indicated that it did not expect travel numbers to reach 2019 levels until at least 2022 - I'd expect the same for hotels. Many conferences in 2021 have already committed to going virtual, and events/conferences are a big source of revenue for hotel chains. Same goes for sports tournaments, weddings, etc. None are expected to rebound in meaningful way in 2021.

I liked the company pre-pandemic but personally, would be in no hurry to jump back into the stock here. Sure I might miss out on some 'rebound' gains, but one will need to be patient with their investment here. I prefer REITs with more certainty which are those operating in the industrial, healthcare and residential industries.
