I’ve been investing in mutual funds for years then 6 months ago in stocks. Did not do badly at all like 10-15% in that period. but there is still basic terminology / concepts that I’m missing like “payout value”. Any resources that you recommend to learn such basics quickly? Not too detailed, and not to much, and ideally illustrated with smw example.

Good question. We have a bit of it on our blog end in our how to buy stocks article

https://www.stocktrades.ca/how-to-buy-stocks-in-canada/

But not very much. To be honest, if you're looking for things like Payout Ratio, Dividend Coverage Ratio, Interest Coverage Ratio etc Investopedia is an excellent resource.

Also, Youtube is great too. Although we've tried some of these tutorial based videos, people don't have much interested so we've kind of steered clear of them. But there are a ton of channels that do focus strictly on it.

Another resource is the Canadian Securities Course. There is an investor related course there where you don't have to take the test, you just do the whole course. This goes far and beyond just basic valuation methods and it is a ton of content. I think the investor version is around $495.
