Selling part of your position

I purchased a stock pre-pandemic and then continued to purchase during pandemic as the price dropped to 50% and then 25% of my original price. The stock is almost recovered to the price that I originally got in at and I am considering selling part of my position. If I do sell, can I for tax purposes state that I sold my most expensive shares (sort of avoiding the Capital Gains till I sell the rest of the stock) or do I have to calculate the average price when I sell?

You have to calculate the average price. This is called your adjusted cost base. Your capital gains/losses would be based on that.
