Hi there,

We try and keep our analysis to Canadian stocks. However, I can speak briefly on this situation which is really unknown as of yet. The proposed legislation is in draft format and is intended to curb monopolies and unfair practices. Alibaba has been criticized by others in the country for their exclusivity practices. It could negatively impact them here. In the long-run, will hit have a material impact? LIkely not, having clear antitrust rules is actually a good thing for the sector so that it enables a level playing field. Much like Amazon has navigated rules in NA, Alibaba will navigate them in China. Could lead to a short term hit, but the long-term secular growth trend for internet stocks in China is still in tact and Alibaba is still well positioned to benefit. Time will tell however, as it is still in draft format and the exact rules are not yet known.
