I have about 5.5k Canadian in my RRSP and would like to have some US exposure through stocks and etf.

Any recommendation/suggestion?

I personally follow a mix of PWL Capital/Couch potato for low cost ETF. Stocktrades for CAD Equity and Yahoo Finance + Zack for US Equity. If you have access to USD then you could look at ITOT, IEFA, IEMG, FTEC. For CAD nothing beats XIC.

Keep in mind as well, if you're looking for very aggressive growth options, have a look at Emerge's products. They are the Canadian versions of the ARK funds.

In that situation, depending on your investment timeline you could go for a dividend growth ETF like DGRO, or a high yielding ETF like VYM if you're looking for yield.

Both of those ETFs fee wise are.... practically free to be honest. DGRO will cost you $0.80 on every $1000 invested a year and VYM $0.60 on every $1000 invested and they give you some great exposure to solid dividend stocks in the United States.

For growth, it's really hard to argue with SPY, QQQ. However, an ETF like VUG has performed outstanding with annualized returns of over 16% over the last decade. And again, this is a Vanguard fund so it's essentially free, costing you $0.40 on every $1000 invested.

Now keep in mind, these are just a starting point. One of the primary reasons we don't cover ETFs here much at Premium is there are SO many it's impossible to narrow down a tight shortlist.

And, one other thing is these are US listed ETFs. If you'd like to keep your money in CAD, you need to look at Canadian counterparts. For example, XUU.TO provides strong exposure in terms of growth, and XQQ provides exposure to the NASDAQ 100 and trades in Canadian dollars.

I hope this helps at least narrow down some products for you. If you come up with an ever shorter shortlist, I'd be happy to comment again.

Hey there! First off, let me know what exactly you're looking for an I can at least point you in the right direction.

Growth? Income?

There are SO many ETFs and products it's impossible to answer this without a very narrow focus.
