How to calculate a stock yearly (or any timeline) performance in your portfolio?

Let’s say I would like to know how stock ABC performed over the whole year 2021, for example. I assume it’s based on the average price in one’s portfolio.

Is it simply a difference between the stock price at the end and the beginning of the time period?

What if you bought shares at multiple times throughout the year? How to calculate a good overall performance number?

In Wealthsimple Trade, the only stock performance data is “daily”and “all time”, that gives a performance based on the average price. I guess other brokers have more in-depth numbers to know exactly how a stock performed? I feel like I’m missing something in my understanding.

Thanks

Your performance is the change between your average share price and the current market value. Wealthsimple shows you this by portfolio and stock by stock for 1 Day, 1 Week, 1 Month, 3 Months, 1 Year, 5 years or total return.

Though just use Yahoo Finance to track portfolio performance. Way easier that way
