Merck or Gilead

Hi, these are not TSX stocks, but can you weigh in on these two stocks. Which is ther better of the two….I am thinking Merck?

Hi there,

Yeah i think at this point MRK is better valued. The company is cheaper than Gilead across pretty much all metrics although both are trading at premiums to the industry. On the flip side and according to ycharts, MRK is trading at a slight premium (6%) to historical averages while GIL is at a 20% discount.

Growth is pretty much equal. Revenue at MRK is expected to grow in the mid, single digit rage vs low single digits for GIL. On the flip side, GIL ahs a higher expected EPS growth rate of 14% vs 10% for MRK.

Honestly, not much separates the too at least in terms of fundamentals. I can't speak to their pipeline as that would take considerable more effort and research, so that may be the deciding factor here. Overall though, both are excellent stocks to own in this are.
