Hey I’m just in the process of opening up a questrade account & I was wondering if it necessary to fill out and submit a W-8 form if I plan on holding US stocks. I haven’t been able to find a clear answer but from what I understand the IRS will take a withholding tax of 30% without the form and 15% but if you are a Canadian citizen you do not need to fill out the W-8 as you are already taxed at 15% of tax exempt in an RRSP account. Like I said I couldn’t find a clear answer so I was just hoping you guys might be able to provide some insight as you are both questrade users. Thanks !
