My current portfolio is lacking exposure to the tech industry. Which ones do you recommend? Is it too late to buy a few shares of Shopify?

Hi Don,

Tech has been on fire, and those who lack exposure are likely underperforming the markets. We recommend that everyone gain exposure - just not at any cost. Case in point, we believe Shopify to be expensive here. That being said, we've always advocated that SHOP is a buy whenever it sees significant weakness - think drops of 15-20% or more. It happens once or twice a year and each time proves to be a buying opportunity.

We also have a few on our Bull lists that are worth considering: REAL, LSPD, CSU and OTEX. One that we have been watching very closely is DND. The company recently IPO'ed and is cheap relative to SaaS peers. It is likely to be quite volatile (this is the nature with IPOs) so is only for those with a higher risk tolerance.

When looking to add tech to your portfolio, make sure it is inline with your portfolio goals. For example, if you are a dividend growth investor, then some of these won't make sense - whereas OTEX and a few others liken ENGH and SYZ may be better options.

Of note, I am long OTEX, LSPD and DND.

Mat
