the renewable power sector stocks have dropped significantly over the last year for several reasons. Is this a good time to buy and which one would you recommend in Canada and US?
Brookfield Renewables?
TransAlta
InnerGex
Canadian Solar

Hey there,

Yep, renewable stocks have certainly had a difficult time over the past year. To your point, if you believe in the long-term viability of the industry (which we do) then the current downtrend could be an opportunity. Of note, these renewables are also struggling due to the threat of rising rates which will make borrowing more expensive. So these companies which have high CAPEX needs will have higher interest costs. The good news is that they are growing at a pretty significant clip and growth should help offset rising costs.

We added Brookfield Renewables to our Foundational list for a reason - we believe it is best in class. While you can make the case for the others you mentioned, in our opinion there is none better than Brookfield and given its size and connection to Brookfield is likely to get better borrowing rates than some of their smaller peers.
