It is a reasonable question to ask. The only thing I would say is what Foundational Stock is the best buy for YOU in particular depends on your overall portfolio makeup. For example, someone who has a lot of industrial exposure already in their portfolios, I might lean towards not adding another one in a situation like WCN or CP. Whereas if they have no exposure, it's an easier decision.
If you are asking me simply from a pure valuation perspective which companies are the best options on that list, I would argue you own 3 of them already in CP, CSU, and CNQ.
Franco is a solid company as well, but it certainly isn't cheap in the situation of rising gold prices. If gold continues to go up, there is more tailwinds here for Franco but obviously it will be exposed to the underlying movements in gold.
Couche-Tard is a solid play in a dropping rate environment in the States as well. If discretionary spending accelerates, we should see a pickup in activity in terms of their operations.
