Fiera Capital has had some positive activity over the past weeks & months. Recent down turn in stock price has caused some concern for what the near/medium term looks like. Would like to hear opinions on moving forward with this stock.

Hi there,

There isn't anything that stands out in particular for Fiera Capital. This is an asset management company which took a big hit at the onset of the pandemic and has since been clawing its way back. It is really following the path of many financial stocks and is still down by approximately 9% over the past year.

Pre-pandemic, Fiera wasn't much of a star performer either. It was prone to significant volatility yet its share price was kind of stuck in neutral. What to expect moving forward? Likely much of the same. The expectation is for earnings and revenue growth in the mid-single digits and assuming the company meets expectations, I'd expect its share price to react accordingly.

Also worth noting, the company had achieved Dividend Aristocrat status in 2018, but lost it just as quickly as the dividend stagnated.
Since the company's share price has been in a downtrend, the yield has crept up. On the bright side, I don't think a dividend cut is on the horizon as the dividend appears to be well covered by earnings (64%) and Operating cash flow (54%).

Overall, it is a decent company, trading at cheap valuations but that has an inconsistent history of delivery. Worth noting, many TSX-listed asset management companies that focus on investment solutions for various client types don't have great track records. It just hasn't been an industry that has performed well.
